Tony winner Paul Tazewell added another statuette to his mantle February 6. The designer, whose work on the Wicked film adaptation has been highly lauded across the board, received the Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film.
Established in 1999, the awards celebrate designers working in film, television, commercials, and other media. Tazewell previously won a CDG award in 2021 for the filmed release of Hamilton, which won in the Excellence in Variety, Reality-Competition or Live Television category.
Tazewell has also donated a Shiz University costume to auction in support of the IATSE Emergency Relief Fund. Organized by the Guild, the auction will support the swath of behind-the-scenes artists who have been impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires. Said CDG Executive Director Brigitta Romanov in a statement, "When challenges arise, we do not stand alone. We stand together. This past year, that solidarity was put into action in ways that truly mattered, as Los Angeles faced devastating wildfires, unions across entertainment didn’t hesitate. The costume designer guild, along with the Teamsters, basic crafts, SAG AFTRA, the DGA, the WGA and so many others, came together to support the victims to remind our community that no one is forgotten in a time of crisis.”
